Big Red Blitz at Lost River Cave

All of these awesome workers came to Lost River Cave and Valley today as part of WKU's MASTERPLAN Program! Students and "Western Leaders" were encouraged to volunteer around the city today, and we were lucky enough to have these great helpers come to the valley! They spent their morning pulling invasive plants from the Wetland, stickered hundreds of sluice bags, and picked up trash along the perimeter of the park!

Thanks to Blair Silliman, MASTERPLAN coordinator and Coordinator of First Year Student Programs, for all of her great work planning this event!

Guest Blog - letterboxing

Letterboxing is a great educational activity that gets people outdoors and having fun! Letterboxing asks you to follow a set of clues to a box with a stamp that you put in a log book. This is a great way to find true treasures and learn some too! For more information visit http://www.letterboxing.org/ and/or http://www.atlasquest.com/.

The wonderful trails at Lost River Cave are home to several of these letterboxes. Click on the link below and go to the "cave critter series" and also "flutter trails" and "civil war trails" to find the clues to begin your hunt. Lost River Cave & Valley Really Rocks!

Welcome to the first ever blog post for Lost River Cave & Valley!

If you haven't visited us before, be sure to come sometime soon.

We have many exciting activities for the entire family to have a family fun outing. Whether you're traveling from far away or having a "staycation," there are many ways to spend a fun filled day!

If you're trying to beat the heat, take an underground boat tour. As the only one of its kind in the Bluegrass state of Kentucky, you will enter into a different world as you travel, by boat, into the cool air and dim light of Lost River Cave. View the flowstone and the natural breakdown rock as you float through the water.

If you want to stretch your legs, journey through the valley on over 2 miles of nature trails. The trails are a part of our 68 acre park in the heart of metropolitan Bowling Green, KY!

For a unique feature, flutter on down to the butterfly habitat and watch the native Kentucky butterflies fly from plant to plant as the land on you and flutter around!

If the kids want to search for treasures, purchase a bag of sluice and sift through it in the backyard. Each bag will have either gems or fossils and the kids get to keep every bit of it.

We hope to see you soon at Lost River Cave and Valley!
